The architectures of work and of dwelling, the faces and words of those who, in contemporary times, inhabit the heritage of Ivrea, Industrial City of the 20th century.
Work in progress in collaboration with Olivetti Historical Archive, Archivio Nazionale Cinema Impresa – Fondazione Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, Ivrea City Council, BellavistaViva OdV, Torino Urban Lab, Mimmo Calopresti Director.
The places and people in the Olivetti social housing neighborhoods in Ivrea, a living expression today of the urban planning carried out by Adriano Olivetti as both a political and social action, in tandem with the Aosta Valley planning scheme: “an act of love toward certain men, toward a higher human condition” (Adriano Olivetti, City of Man, Edizioni di Comunità Rome, 1960).
The Bellavista neighborhood, born working-class after World War II and populated at the time by Italian immigrants, is still popular and a destination for people from all over the world. Documentary films and photography offer a narrative of multiple perspectives, which interweave the author’s vision with that of the young people who live there. Part of Risoli’s worksite in the neighborhood was presented at the Torino Urban Lab on March 10, 2022. Speakers: Gaetano Di Tondo, President of Olivetti Historical Archive, Elena Testa, Head of Archivio Nazionale Cinema Impresa – Fondazione Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, Enrico Verra, President of A.I.A.C.E Torino, Alberto Vanolo, Professor of Architecture, University of Turin, Mimmo Calopresti, with a video contribution; coordinated by Elena Della Piana, President of Torino Urban Lab.
The ICO Workshops on Jervis Street, the most beautiful street in the world (Le Corbusier), the West Residential Unit, the Olivetti computing and electronic machines, photographed here by Risoli. Images stretched to the limits of abstraction, transitioning into videos that dissolve in fadeouts.
Some shots of the ICO Workshops in 2023: Factory’s HERITAGE FRAMES, and the video HUMAN CALCULATION are part of the exhibition: Olivetti. Beyond the Typewriter curated by the Italian Institute of Culture in Tel Aviv (2023) and the Olivetti Historical Archive.
